God Speaks. Do You Hear HIM?

8 December 2017 | By Arpita Shandilya

A new day requires us to make new decisions. The decision can vary from as big as should you take a new job, to as small as which train should you take to work. Have you ever thought whether God talks to us about little things too?

Good news friend, Yes He does. God wants to communicate with us constantly; communication is the secret to a relationship with God. Question is are we hearing God speak?

Let me give you a recent example from my life. Recently, while travelling to work, as I was waiting for my regular train, I sensed the Holy Spirit whispering to me: ” Board the next train”. But I was in a hurry and I happened to dismiss this voice, thinking that it was just a random thought. And because I failed to discern God’s voice, I ended up hurting my right hand in the train and I could not use it for almost three weeks. Now did God cause this to happen? No, never because God is good and what He does is good ( Psalm 119:68).

But what I want to bring to your attention is that it is so important for us as children of God to be in constant fellowship with the Holy Spirit and discern His voice and obey Him. Like my beloved Pastor always says; the only way to discern if it is God’s voice, is to remain in Him. John 15:4 says, “Remain in me, as I also remain in you. No branch can bear fruit by itself; it must remain in the vine. Neither can you bear fruit unless you remain in me.” This is not just a sentence written in the Bible, this is Jesus himself talking to His disciples.

The Bible also says in John 10:27, My sheep hear My voice, and I know them, and they follow Me. I want to encourage you through this post to train your ears to hear the Good Shepherd’s voice in every small and big decision of your life and you do that by remaining in His Word. When you live a life that is directed by the Holy Spirit, you can never go wrong! He is the wonderful counselor.

PS: Oh, and before I sign off, let me further tell you my testimony. God is ever so good and faithful. He provided for me and my house even at a time when I was on unpaid medical leave!
