How to be Content Being Second Best

2017 started as a great year for me at work. I received platinum, gold and bronze awards for my performance all through January to September. All the glory and honor goes to Jesus, I have nothing to boast. “The righteous are rewarded with good things” (Proverbs 13:21)

I was enjoying the favor ground and the taste of being the best.

Super excited, I was looking forward to close the next quarter with a similar performance. In October, with all confidence I started to speed my work up. Quickly I realized I was not paying much attention to detail. This led to 2 critical process errors and a 90% in knowledge test (we require 100%) . This big blunder left me feeling unsettled and upset with myself.

Just yesterday I was basking in my performance, however now I felt less confident of myself. I was unhappy being second.

Take it to GOD :
Cast your cares on the LORD and he will sustain you; he will never let the righteous be shaken (Psalm 55:22)
I took this feeling to the Lord, expressing my unhappiness and discontent of being second best. Telling Jesus, I feared my performance for the year will dip. My appraisals were nearing, this was the last thing I wanted after all the efforts I had put in.

Let the Holy Spirit minister :
I am not saying this because I am in need, for I have learned to be content whatever the circumstances. I know what it is to be in need, and I know what it is to have plenty. I have learned the secret of being content in any and every situation, whether well fed or hungry, whether living in plenty or in want. (Philippians 4:11-12)
The Lord spoke directly to me in this scripture about “being content“. If you are not first, be content with second. I knew that it was a correction for me. This changed my heart, my joy and peace returned. I shifted my focus from my hard work to Jesus. Shift your focus on Jesus, He will make a way in the most dry desert, wilderness situation. He will get you out in green pastures and lead you besides still waters.

Surrender & Thank the Lord :

Be still, and know that I am God. I will be exalted among the nations, I will be exalted in the earth!” (Psalm 46:10)
The Holy Spirit taught me to surrender and submit to God in all situations. Jesus has helped me, protected me and watched over me these 8 years in the company through it all. I started to rejoice and Praise God. The burden had lifted, I was no longer troubled and looked forward to get back to work to do my best.

Long story short … the scorecard was out in November.
Any guesses? Yes, I was Rank#1.

I was baffled, thinking there was a serious glitch in the system. There were other criteria with higher weightage, which rocketed me straight to #1. My Jesus took care of my work, when I committed it to Him. Commit to the LORD whatever you do, and he will establish your plans. (Proverbs 16:3)

Shout out “The Lord is amazing!

It not about being content in second best but being content in Jesus. Knowing our identity in Christ and being content in his love, will not affect what rank the world gives you.
